Interesting approach to securing the long term survival of rowing. While it’s tough to accept change, rowing would do well to accept the IOC vision. Of special concern to me is the expense associated with course construction. The notion of various race distances, like swimming, would add a new dimension. Sports need to be TV friendly for mass appeal. To do nothing, is to wither and possibly die.
Agreed - I think TV is a huge driver here, but I think these changes would also make for a better in-person spectator experience (to take nothing away from the 2012 regatta, which was outstanding).
